I'm out for my cig, this is supposed to be my 10 minutes relaxation
They open up the marriage subject (again) - I try to isolate myself and not listen, didn't work
the conversation goes cheap: they talk about marriage expenses (or in their sense of the conversation: How much is a bride nowadays?)
X: "wal! lesh meen ma5ed!!" -> hmmm!!!! Seriously?!!!
another X: "sho homme el banat ma bedhom yensetro" -> I can't even understand how "yensetro" is related to marriage !!!!!!!!!!
Marriage is a misconception in our generation, only few can appreciate and understand the real marriage, the one that comes with love and respect, not the money-oriented marriege folded with ugly fucked up concepts

The issue itself is very big and i cannot possibly cover it here without putting everybody to sleep (still up?), but allow me to play devils advocate for a few minutes.
The problem is that people are exceptionally superficial. Even if they are not, the community as a whole does not really help; instead it encourages people to be materialistic.
Moreover, since by far the most common way to get married is sort of traditional, chances are people don't really know each other, and the measure of how "good" a person is becomes the amount of money is in the bank and how much is gonna get spent on the wedding.
So sadly it comes down to money, where a typical guy who's been out of Uni for 3~5 (typically a 26 year old) years somehow needs to be able to provide the same living standards to his wife as her dad does, where it's practically not possible for a guy that worked that long to be able to afford a 15k engadment, wedding and honey moon, a 5k car and furnish an appartment for god knows how much. Even with a salary average above 800 jd, if he used to save half of that he would not even crack 20k in 4 years.
However, I do agree with you on the love and respect aspect of marriage and it's very unfortunate that in most cases it doesn't happen that way. And althought i would like to blame the girls for this ;-), since the way guy-gal relations go in jordan, it's a bit difficult to get to know girls as everybody plays hard (impossible) to get, I also have to blame myself for not trying hard enough. Then again you work with what you get, and when all you get are empty shells with no interests or intellect, why bother?
Well, Since you've already stated you're playing the devil's advocate role I'm gonna have breif and be easy on you but plz bear up with me.
First, if one can only get married in the traditional ugly way we see nowadays, then fuck it! that's not marriage! that's employement with special agreement rules in the contract.
Second, "So sadly it comes down to money, where a typical guy who's been out of Uni for 3~5 (typically a 26 year old) years somehow needs to be able to provide the same living standards to his wife as her dad does" .. Why the hell wud a gurl expect her "living standards" to be provided ready to her by either her dad or her spouse?? by doing this, those gurls destroy any aspect of womens' rights accomplished so far, by being dependant and demanding!
Third, I'm gonna exclude the previously mentioned dependant and demanding gurls in this point:
Gurls play impossible to get to guys they can't stand talking to, they play hard to get to guys they don't like, and they give chances (in fact they might even do the first step) to guys they're attracted to..
So, if you're faced with a "hard-to-get" gurl, your chances are either she's dependant, demanding, MIGHT like you. OR that she's independant and doesn't like you.. so either way, don't bother :) go find another chick around, or don't.
@point 1: agreed.
@point 2: Like it or not, thats what happens and forget about womens' rights most girls don't give a damn. All you have to do, is take a step back and take a look at the girls around you, what works for you and what you believe in does not necessarily reflect very well onto other people; you do not really represent the majority of girls by being independent, most girls are not and do not want to be.
@point 3: although i agree with you, i guess i did not convey my point of view very well, what i tried to say is that girls in Jordan are very resistant to meeting new guys, which in the end pours into not being able to meet a good partner.
on the other side of the coin, most of us guys are scum so it's understandable.
Regarding dependant and demanding gurls, you're right that it's their choice, dunno if they represent the majority though.. however, still it's also one's responsibility to carefully chose their life-partner, rather than pick her randomly according to insane society measures and start whining about the results the rest of their lives, and surprisingly enough, start blaming her for that, and spread the blame on all the gurls generlly!
I say to them: Wake up idiots! It's your fault, take some responsibility
As for meeting a good partner, "good" is just a mere theory, there are no absolutes, it's a matter of harmony, a good partner for you might be the worst for another.. it's all relative. besides, again, guys who like dependant gurls (who btw happen to be extremely compliant to the fucked up insane society traditions), has to also accept the "playing-hard-to-get" silly game they have!
Thumbs up
hehe thank God :P n i thought this is gonna be one of the pointless endless debates :P
looooool nope, its time to move to the next topic ;-)
That's why we prefer foreign girls..or local girls with foreign minds..not because they are better but they don't stick with the stupid traditions
@Buffalo: There are No "foreign" minds! everyone is different and unique on their own.
In fact, I am completely against the concept of adopting other ppl's or cultures' minds.
Moreover, everyone has the choice to have their own minds, beliefs, thoughts and conclusions, standards, concepts and philosophies.. cz otherwise, one will end up being just copy.. and I really wonder if another copy is what we need!
its not about adopting ppl's or cultures' minds..i am saying its easier to go along with them..they don't have the complexity and the cultural issues about marriage
Well then lookup marriage in China for example, they still follow matchmaker style and the approval of head family members has to be guaranteed for a successful marriage there.
Statistically speaking, China forms the majority of the foreign world out there.
Foreign is a too comprehensive term I have to say.
